Foundations and retaining walls

WHAT IS INVOLVED ?

Fondations et soutenementFondations soutenement

As stated by the Quebec Association of Construction and Housing Professionals, foundation walls “must withstand the load of the building and withstand the lateral pressures of the soil. They must be designed to prevent water infiltration and limit moisture transfer and heat loss.”

Their height, thickness and components are fundamental to obtain durable foundation walls. Likewise, retaining walls make it possible to contain earth or any other granular material on a reduced surface. They can be provisional or final depending on the structure and nature of your project. They are particularly useful for the protection of roads and banks against earth displacement  and landslides, the creation of vertical obstacles to limit noise emissions, soil support during excavations or soil decontamination, the creation of underground parking lots. Both foundations and retaining walls are subject to strict regulations to avoid potential dangerous conditions (lateral soil forces, repeated action of freezing and thawing, etc.).

Calling in our experts means ensuring you have foundations and retaining walls that comply with current legislation.

KNOW HOW TO DECRYPT

2.99

TOTAL THERMAL RESISTANCE

Total thermal resistance required between a foundation wall separating a heated space from an unheated space, outside air or adjacent ground, regardless of the location of the building (Regulation 11.2.2.1. 1 Building Code).

50

PERCENTAGE

If a foundation wall, of which more than 50% of its surface is exposed to the outside air, as well as the part of a foundation wall that is wood-framed, must have a total thermal resistance equal to that required for a wall above ground level.

5

YEARS

Time available to benefit from the guarantee plan for new residential buildings. After this period, you can consult a legal adviser to examine whether a remedy is desirable, including the possibility of recourse to the civil courts.
